Parenthood is yet again linked to the novel also as comradeship and caring. Parent figures happen a lot in wartime periods since low rank soldiers tend to look up to higher ranks men or doctors that take care and protect the men. Some common examples are Prior's father like feelings towards his troops and the patients of the hospital refer to Rivers as a father figure.
In Regeneration, the thought of parenthood is a uncommon gendering of protective roles. A old patient of Rivers calls him a "male mother". A quote said by Rivers " He distrusted the implication that nurturing,even when done by a man, remains female , as if the ability were in some way borrowed , or even stolen, from women... if that were true, then there was really very little hope." by stating this quote i made it clear that parenthood and the things that each different gender does, (e.g Fatherhood, Motherhood) have different roles. but Rivers method of healing requires expressions and emotions which is a more female role, even though nurturing his patients is a more female idea he fully accepts the idea that he acts either as a father figure or male mother figure so that he can heal his patients properly and effectively, and his patients as i previous said were "war outcasts" there for these patients need the father attention.
