The Enlightenment was a period when the world order in Europe was shaken. In the arts, sciences and daily life, its principles meant that the ruling authorities were challenged for their absolute rule and individual rights and ways of life were championed. Like any movement there were positive and negative aspects to Enlightenment and the interpretation of what it meant.
