Perfume explores a tremendous range of topics, ideas and themes. And although Regeneration was a great book to read, we often overlap in a few of the ideas when either doing presentation and essays. Perfume on the other hand touches in nearly every area of the human emotions, everything from love, hate, anger, anxiety, to other emotions that cannot be described in a single word. It also touches on the French culture, religion, morals, ethnics, and nature, with both incredible olfactory detail and visual details. I personally look forward in discussing Perfume in class, but at the same time also hope that our ideas will not be affect too much by, movies, clips, general themes that will veer our original opinions of Perfume off course.

Brian, your comment about not allowing the film to influence our opinions of a novel is sound advice. You are being examined on the literary nature of the text studied.
You are analysing the way that the writer creates a world with words. The word choice, imagery evoked and use of literary devices adds to our understanding and interpretation of the text.
If you only refer to the texts in terms of plot, this shows a lack of close reading. I'm sure our class discussion of the novel will prove rich.
i agree with brian on the wide range of topics discussed throughout the book. i think that these ideas will give us alot to talk about in class because the perspectives of everyone will be influenced by their personal backgrounds and experiences with such emotions as love and anger. The ideas portrayed by the director of perfume will have an inpact on each student; however, i believe with critical analyization of the text and understanding of the novel each student will be able to come up with their own interpretation of Grenouille.
